Maintenance & Best Practices
3.1 Oil Change Procedure
Follow these steps for a proper oil change on your Cadillac ATS:
- Run engine to operating temperature (10-15 minutes)
- Park on level surface and engage parking brake
- Remove oil fill cap to allow drainage
- Place drain pan under oil drain plug
- Remove drain plug using 15mm socket (counterclockwise)
- Allow oil to drain completely (15-20 minutes)
- Replace drain plug and torque to 18 lb-ft
- Remove old oil filter using filter wrench
- Apply thin coat of new oil to filter gasket
- Install new filter and torque to 22 lb-ft
- Add specified amount of new oil through fill port
- Start engine and check for leaks
- Turn off engine, wait 5 minutes, check dipstick
- Reset oil life monitoring system
3.2 Oil Life Monitoring System
The Cadillac ATS uses an intelligent oil life monitoring system that calculates remaining oil life based on:
- Engine revolutions
- Engine temperature
- Driving conditions
- Vehicle speed patterns
- Time since last change
To reset the oil life monitor:
- Turn ignition to ON (do not start engine)
- Fully depress accelerator pedal three times within 5 seconds
