β οΈ Check engine light P0700, P0300, etc
Issue & causes β EVAP leak, Oβ sensor, catalyst efficiency, misfire, thermostat, VVT solenoids (common on 3.6L). Pacifica hybrids also have electric drive codes.
Symptoms β Rough idle, reduced power, fuel smell, or no symptoms at all.
Step-by-step diagnosis
- Read codes with OBD2 scanner β write down freeze frame data.
- Check fuel cap β click 3 times, clear codes, drive 50 miles.
- Inspect vacuum lines and air filter (clogged filter can cause lean codes).
- For misfire codes (P030X), swap coils/plugs to identify.
- Monitor live data: long term fuel trim, O2 sensor voltages, coolant temp.
- EVAP smoke test for small leaks (common: purge valve stuck).
- Hybrid specific: check HV battery cooling vents, inverter coolant level.

π Battery/alternator light
Issue β voltage outside 13.2β14.8V running. Alternator diode failure, worn brushes, or battery internal short.
Symptoms β dim lights, flickering interior, power tailgate slow, “battery saver active” message.
Diagnosis
- Multimeter: engine off 12.4β12.7V ; running 13.8β14.8V.
- Load test battery (free at chain stores).
- Check belt tension and alternator pulley (clutch pulley can fail).
- Inspect ground strap from engine to body.
Repair β AGM battery $200β$380; alternator $550β$1,050 (OEM higher); belt $60β$200.
π’οΈ Oil pressure warning (red)
Issue β pressure below 5β7 psi. Causes: low oil, worn pump, clogged pickup, or failed pressure switch (common on 3.6L).
Diagnosis
- Stop engine immediately, check dipstick β add oil if low.
- If oil full but light on, suspect pressure switch (often leaks oil).
- Mechanical gauge test to verify actual pressure.
- Listen for valvetrain noise β if light on with noise, do not restart.
Costs β pressure switch $120β$230; oil pump $900β$1,800; engine flush/cleaning $150β$300.
π Tire pressure monitor (TPMS)
Detailed causes β sensor battery (5β7 years), damaged sensor, aftermarket wheels without sensors, or relearn needed after rotation.
Diagnosis
- Use TPMS tool to trigger each sensor and read IDs.
- Check spare tire pressure (some Pacificas have spare sensor).
- Inspect valve stems for cracks/corrosion.
Costs β sensor $60β$140 each + relearn $40β$80. Complete set $350β$600.
β Brake warning light (red)
Hidden causes β worn brake pads (wear sensor), low fluid from pad wear, master cylinder leak, or ABS module internal leak.
Diagnosis
- Check fluid level β if low, inspect for leaks at calipers, wheel cylinders, lines.
- Measure rotor thickness and pad depth (minimum 3mm).
- Test brake pedal feel: spongy = air in system; hard = booster issue.
Repair β pads & rotors per axle $300β$650; caliper $300β$550; brake flush $120β$170.
π ABS / ESC lights
Common failures β wheel speed sensor (dirt, broken wire), reluctor ring cracked, steering angle sensor out of calibration.
Diagnosis advanced
- Scan ABS codes (Cxxxx) β sensor circuit high/low, pump motor.
- Visually inspect sensor wiring for damage.
- Test sensor resistance (typically 1β2 kΞ©).
- Check for metal shavings on magnetic encoder.
Cost β sensor $140β$280; ABS module $900β$1,500 (programming included); reluctor ring $250β$600 (requires bearing/hub).
πΊ SRS airbag light
Why? β Occupant classification sensor (passenger seat), clock spring, seat belt pretensioner, or crash data memory.
Diagnosis
- Only SRS-safe scanner (e.g., Autel, Launch).
- Inspect yellow connectors under seats β reconnect if loose.
- Check for broken wires in seat heater circuits (can interfere).
Costs β clock spring $250β$450; seat sensor $400β$900; module reset $100β$200.
π‘οΈ Engine overheat light
Deep causes β stuck thermostat, water pump impeller broken, radiator fan failure (module or motor), air in system, or clogged heater core.
Diagnosis
- Check coolant level (reservoir AND radiator when cold).
- Verify fan operation β A/C on should trigger low speed.
- Feel upper and lower radiator hoses β both hot = good flow, one cold = stuck thermostat.
- Pressure test cooling system to find leaks.
Repair β thermostat $180β$300; water pump $600β$1,000; radiator $700β$1,200; fan assembly $450β$850.
β‘ Hybrid system warning
Serious! β High voltage battery, inverter, motor, or hybrid control module. Often accompanied by “service hybrid system” message.
Common triggers β low hybrid battery coolant, failed battery contactor, insulation fault, or 12V battery weak (causes many hybrid lights).
Diagnosis safety β requires high-voltage trained tech. Start by checking 12V battery condition and hybrid coolant level (pink).
Costs β 12V battery $200β$350; hybrid battery fan filter $50β$100; hybrid battery cells $2,000β$6,000; inverter $2,500β$4,500.
π Service shifter / transmission light
Issue β Rotary shifter module, brake switch, or transmission range sensor. Often Pacifica displays “shift to park” or “service shifter”.
Diagnosis
- Check brake lights β if they don’t work, brake switch faulty.
- Scan TCM for codes (P0706, P0702 etc).
- Inspect shifter assembly for debris or sticky mechanism.
Cost β brake switch $90β$160; shifter module $350β$650; transmission range sensor $400β$800.
π ACC / FCW warning
Cause β Radar blocked (ice, mud), misaligned after windshield replacement, or faulty camera.
Quick fix β clean front emblem area and windshield area near rearview mirror. If light persists, need dynamic calibration.
Cost β radar sensor $900β$1,800; camera $600β$1,200; calibration $250β$600.
π£οΈ LaneSense warning
Why β Camera visibility, lane markings poor, or sensor fault. Also appears if windshield is fogged or tinted over camera.
DIY β keep windshield clear, reset via Uconnect settings. If permanent, camera may need aiming.
βοΈ Stop/start not ready
Normal reasons β battery charging, engine cold, HVAC demand, or after remote start. If persistent, aux battery (small behind cover) may be weak.
πͺ Door / power liftgate warning
Check β latches, wiring in hinge (broken wires), or strut failure. Pacifica sliding doors have multiple sensors.
π Key fob not detected
Fix β replace fob battery (CR2032). Hold fob against start button for backup. Interference from phone or charger.
π§ Washer fluid low
Refill with -20Β° fluid. Sensor can fail if fluid is thick or contaminated.
π Advanced diagnosis & tools
- Use Chrysler-specific scanner (WiTECH, AlfaOBD) for ABS/SRS/hybrid codes.
- Pacifica hybrid: check codes in both PCM and hybrid control processor.
- Always inspect 12V battery condition first β low voltage causes 50% of random warnings.
- Look for Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) for your model year.
