🔧 FM PLATFORM DEEP BIBLE
The Nissan FM platform (Front Midship) debuted in 2001 with the G35 and 350Z. It places the engine behind the front axle centerline, improving weight distribution (52:48 for G35). Suspension is double wishbone front, multi-link rear – shared across all FM cars including the FX, Z33, and Skyline V35. The VQ35DE in the G35 produces 280 hp (SAE net) and 270 lb-ft, redline 6600 rpm. This engine family is known for reliability and aftermarket support. The FM platform also accommodates the VQ37VHR, VK45DE V8, and ATTESA AWD systems. Wheelbase varies from 104.3″ (350Z) to 112.2″ (G35 sedan) to 113.8″ (M35).
The G35’s double-wishbone front suspension provides excellent camber control, while the multi-link rear allows for compliant yet controlled ride. Many suspension components are interchangeable across FM cars – for example, 350Z rear sway bars fit G35, and aftermarket coilovers often fit multiple models. The steering rack is mounted high on the bulkhead for precise feel.
