Issue & common Captiva causes
Petrol 2.4L: timing chain stretch (P0017), O2 sensor (P0135/P0155), EVAP purge valve (P0443). 3.2L V6: camshaft position actuator (P0016), intake manifold runner control. 2.0L diesel: EGR valve (P0401), boost pressure sensor (P0236), fuel rail pressure (P0087).
Symptoms
- Rough idle, misfire (especially cold start)

- Timing correlation: use scan tool to check cam-crank deviation ( >5Β° indicates chain stretch).
- Vacuum test / smoke test: for EVAP or intake leaks.
- Fuel pressure test (diesel): compare with spec (common rail 300β1600 bar).
- EGR function test: actuate via scan tool; check for stuck open/closed.

π Pro diagnosis tips for Captiva
- Always check battery voltage and grounds first β Captiva sensitive to low voltage.
- Use a Tech2 or equivalent for ABS/SRS module communication.
- For intermittent lights, wiggle test harness near connectors (engine bay, under seats).
- Timing chain rattle on 2.4L β if you hear it at cold start, replace chain before it jumps.
