4.1 Preparation & Safety

• Park on level ground and engage parking brake
• Warm engine for 5 minutes (warm oil drains faster)
• Gather tools: Socket set, oil filter wrench, drain pan, funnel, gloves
• Use jack stands if lifting vehicle (never rely on jack alone)

4.2 Drainage Process

1. Remove oil fill cap (allows air in for better drainage)
2. Locate drain plug underneath engine (refer to manual)
3. Place drain pan under plug and loosen plug
4. Allow oil to drain completely (15-20 minutes)
5. Replace drain plug with new washer (torque: 30 ft-lbs)

4.3 Filter Replacement

The Lexus IS uses cartridge-type oil filters. Remove filter housing, replace cartridge and O-rings, lubricate new O-ring with fresh oil before installation.

All modern Lexus IS models require full synthetic oil. Synthetic oil provides:
