🚨 Check Engine (MIL) yellow/red
Issue
Engine/emission control fault – from loose fuel cap to internal engine failure.
Symptoms
- Rough idle, misfire, power loss, or no symptoms at all.
- Flashing MIL = severe misfire (cat damage risk).
Expanded diagnosis
- Step 1: Read OBD2 codes (generic) plus VW module 01 with VCDS/OBDeleven – VW often stores additional environmental data.
- Step 2: Check freeze frame data – RPM, coolant temp, load.

🛢️ Oil pressure red
Issue
Low oil pressure – level, pump, pickup, or bearings.
Symptoms
- Red light at idle, goes away with revs (worn bearings) or stays on (pump failure).

- 1. Stop engine immediately, check dipstick level & top up.
- 2. Mechanical pressure test: remove pressure sender, attach gauge – spec at 2000 rpm > 2.0 bar.
- 3. If pressure low: drop oil pan, inspect pickup pipe for sludge (TDI common).
- 4. Check oil filter housing pressure relief valve.

🔋 Battery charge red
Issue
Alternator not charging, broken belt, or bad connection.
Symptoms
- Red battery icon with engine running; lights dim, eventually stall.

- 2. If below 13V: check alternator belt tension and condition.
- 3. Test alternator diodes: set multimeter to AC volts – should be <0.1V AC at battery while running.

- 5. Load test battery – faulty cell can also trigger light.

🌡️ Coolant temperature red
Issue
Overheating or low coolant level.
Symptoms
- Red thermometer, “STOP” message, steam, heater blows cold.

- 2. Pressure test cooling system (tool pumps to 1.5 bar) – look for external leaks.
- 3. Check thermostat opening: upper radiator hose should get hot when engine reaches 90°C.

- 5. For head gasket suspicion: check for white mayo under oil cap, or use combustion leak tester (blue fluid turns yellow).

⛔ Brake warning red
Issue
Handbrake on, low fluid, or pad wear (on some models).
Symptoms
- Red “BRAKE” or circle light; spongy pedal, squealing.

- 1. Check handbrake lever fully released and switch adjustment.
- 2. Inspect brake fluid level in reservoir – if low, look for leaks at calipers, pipes, or master cylinder.
- 3. Measure pad thickness through caliper inspection hole (min 3mm).

- 2. Check sensor resistance: typically 1–1.8 kΩ.
- 3. Lift wheel, spin by hand, measure AC voltage at sensor plug (should generate ~0.2–1V).

💺 Airbag (SRS) yellow

- Yellow (!) symbol; sometimes accompanied by “tyre pressure loss” text.

- 1. Check and adjust all tyre pressures to recommended values (sticker in fuel flap).
- 2. Re-calibrate TPMS via infotainment (CAR → settings → tyre pressure).
- 3. If light returns quickly, inspect tyres for nails, cuts, or slow punctures.
- 4. Indirect TPMS uses ABS sensors – if a wheel speed sensor gives erratic signal, it may trigger TPMS.

🌀 Power steering yellow
Issue
