Complete Technical Specifications
The Nissan NV1500 features two primary engine configurations across its production run. Understanding these specifications is crucial for proper maintenance and optimal performance.
Engine Specifications Comparison
| Parameter | 5.6L V8 (VK56DE) | 4.0L V6 (VQ40DE) | Engineering Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Displacement | 5,552 cc (5.6L) | 3,954 cc (4.0L) | Measured to ISO 3833 standards |
| Bore x Stroke | 95.5 mm × 97.0 mm | 95.5 mm × 92.0 mm | Square engine design for V8 |
| Compression Ratio | 10.3:1 | 9.7:1 | Affects oil temperature tolerance |
| Oil System Capacity (Total) | 6.9 quarts (6.53L) | 5.4 quarts (5.11L) | Includes all galleries and cooler |
| Drain & Refill Capacity | 6.2 quarts (5.87L) | 4.8 quarts (4.54L) | Practical change amount with filter |
| Oil Filter Capacity | 0.7 quarts (0.66L) | 0.6 quarts (0.57L) | Additional oil required for new filter |
Step-by-Step Oil Change Procedure
Following the correct procedure ensures complete oil evacuation and proper system priming. The steps below are based on Nissan Technical Service Bulletin NTB11-054.
Vehicle Preparation & Safety
Park on level ground and engage parking brake. Run engine for 3-5 minutes to reach operating temperature (185-210°F). This reduces oil viscosity for more complete drainage. Gather tools: 14mm drain plug wrench, oil filter wrench, drain pan, funnel, and torque wrench.
Oil Drainage Procedure
Remove oil fill cap to break vacuum. Position drain pan under oil pan. Loosen drain plug gradually and allow oil to drain for 15-20 minutes. For complete drainage, leave drain plug removed for an additional 5 minutes after dripping stops.
Filter Replacement
Remove old filter using appropriate wrench. Clean filter mating surface on engine. Apply thin coat of new oil to filter gasket. Hand-tighten new filter ¾ turn after gasket contact (22-25 Nm torque specification).
Refill & Verification
Reinstall drain plug with new washer (torque to 25-34 Nm). Using calculator results, pour recommended amount minus 0.5 quarts. Start engine and run for 30 seconds to fill filter. Check for leaks. Turn off engine, wait 2 minutes, then check dipstick and add remaining oil as needed.
